My First EVER Creation

While I was in Cabo San Lucas for spring break this past week, I decided to get a little creative with the clothes that I brought in my almost 50 pound suitcase. Because there is not a Forever21 close to my house, I have a new found love for this fabulous, inexpensive store. I took one of my fairly simple spring dresses from Forever21 and started cutting away. I cut off the thick red trim at the bottom which made the dress a less awkward length. I then proceeded to cut the straps and turn it into a halter top. The dress was still too simple at this point so I broke off a chain necklace that I had, attached that making it into a halter dress, and cut off the boring white straps. To top my creation off I put on a gold, empire waist belt to give the dress a little glamour. For not knowing a single thing about the actual act of clothing design, I feel pretty proud of my first EVER creation.

I searched on Forever21.com to locate the original dress but unfortunately, I was not successful. Here is my final product:

Lucite... Who Would Have Thought?

Despite my own personal opinion, lucite fashion is making it's way to the top of the most stylish summer items. Lucite, a transparent plastic, is now being used in many different shoes as well as high fashion hand bags. I think a small amount of lucite is tolerable, but an excess amount of this futuristic material may look a little too space like for me.

Ballet Flats are Here to Stay

(Juicy Couture 225.00)

(Tory Burch 195.00)

Ballet flats have been stylish for the past couple of months and as we continue on into spring/summer... they too continue to be fashionable. The one difference with this summer is, ballet flats are now lacking simplicity, making things a little more exciting. Flats are now being shown in patent leather, metallics, and some even contain a pendant on top.

(Jeffrey Cambell, equally as cute as Tory Burch, but only 68.00)

(Guess 109.00)

Some Emily News

For the next couple of weeks I will be helping the lovely and intelligent Natalie Barber out at Language Boutique in Wicker Park, Chicago. I will give you updates on what is going on at the store, but for now check out what Language is all about at shoplanguage.com.

Can We Ever Really Get Enough Metallic?

From bags, to dresses and tops, to even bikinis...... metallic is still VERY in style. Metallic is being advertised everywhere from the very high end with Balenciaga and Burberry Prorsum to other day to day labels. This spring is not going to be as heavy metal as the fall of 2006, but to even add a little metallic to your wardrobe with a belt or shoes would be a nice, stylish touch. Metallic accessories are key this spring.

Say Bye Bye to Belly Shirts As We Say Bye Bye to "Hit Me Baby One More Time"

As Britney Spears goes from fashion icon to celebrity nutcase, I think it is time to put the "Hit Me Baby One More Time" outfits in the past. I am haunted by this image and the fact that girls continue to think it is okay to show the lower parts of their stomach as a fashion statement. With tank tops such as C+C California in existence, there is absolutely no excuse to have your belly hangin' out. C+C California was a company created by two young women who grew up together on the shore of Southern California. Their label emphasizes on style as well as comfort and features longer than average tank tops.

Ladies, why make a spectacle of yourself when there is an easy solution?

C+C tanks are the perfect solution and can be worn under almost any top. C+C California is sold at most department stores and available on the website at CandCcalifornia.com

If Celebs Can Do It, We Can Do It Too.... High Rise Jeans Baby!

I love styles from the late 60's/ early 70's and YES, high rise jeans are coming back in. Not only do they button at your belly, but they have a flare two times the size of your average jean. Celebrities are rockin' these jeans from left to right, and we can too!
Shopbop.com is a great website to purchase high rise denim pants.
